Bupivacaine Hydrochloride is 2-Piperidinecarboxamide , 1-butyl-N(2,6dimethylphenyl)-,monohydrochloride , monohydrate , a white crystalline powder that is freely soluble in 95 percent ethanol , soluble in water , and slightly soluble in chloroform or acetone.Bupivacaine Hydrochloride is available in sterile isotonic solutions with and without epinephrine(as bitartrate) 1 : 200 ,000 for injection via local infiltration,peripheral nerve block , and caudal and lumbar epidural blocks . Solutions of Bupivacaine Hydrochloride may be autoclaved if they do not contain epinephrine . Solutions are clear and colorless. Bupivacaine is related chemically and pharmacologically to the aminoacyl local anesthetics .They differ in this respect from the procaine-type local anesthetics , which have an ester linkage.

Toepassing:

Bupivacaine hydrochloride is prescribed for caudal, epidural, peripheral, or sympathetic anesthetic block.On the other hand, bupivacaine hydrochloride is also a local anaesthetic of the amide type used in eye surgery. It is used in 0.25-0.75% solution and often mixed with lidocaine hydrochloride.Moreover, its action starts after about 5 minutes and lasts for about 10 uur.

Bupivacaine hydrochloride has many other effects.For example, it is a local anesthetic used for peripheral nerve block, infiltration, and sympathetic, caudal or epidural block.
