Sildenafil Citrate Description:

Sildenafil citrate, sold under Viagra, Revatio and various other trade names, is a medicament for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension (PAH). It was originally made by Pfizer scientists David Bell, David Brown and Nikolay Twett.

The primary indication of sildenafil is the treatment of erectile dysfunction (unable to maintain a satisfactory erection to complete sexual intercourse). The currently used standard treatment methods include erectile dysfunction, including diabetes, by inhibiting cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) to promote the regulation of penile blood flow in cGMP-degrading enzymes.

In addition to erectile dysfunction, sildenafil citrate can also be effective in rare pulmonary hypertension. It relaxes the arterial wall, leading to reduced pulmonary artery resistance and pressure.
